Il contributo descrive le travagliate vicende della sepoltura del Beato Angelico, custodita  nella Basilica di Santa Maria sopra Minerva, in quella che era la cappella appartenente alla famiglia Rustici, dedicata a San Tommaso d'Aquino e che oggi costituisce il vestibolo di uscita verso la Chiesa di San Ignazio. La storia del monumento è stata segnata, inizialmente, dalla manomissione avvenuta in occasione del Giubileo del 1600, con la separazione della lastra tombale dalla cassa con i resti mortali del Beato; successivamente, il sepolcro è stato interessato da vari interventi, di restauro  e finalizzati alla ricerca dei resti dell'artista (1915 e 1958); in ultimo, è stato oggetto di un progetto che ha portato alla realizzazione di una nuova sistemazione negli anni fra il 1959 ed il 1975. Un atto vandalico provocato da ignoti ed avvenuto nel 2018, infine, ha reso necessario un nuovo intervento di restauro, curato da chi scrive.

                    A history of the tomb of Fra Angelico in the Basilica of Santa Maria sopra Minerva in Rome and its restoration

This paper describes the tormented sequence of events concerning the tomb of Fra Angelico. He is buried in what was the chapel of the Rustici family in the Basilica of Santa Maria sopra Minerva. The chapel, dedicated to Saint Thomas Aquinas, is now the vestibule of the church’s rear exit leading to the Church of Sant’Ignazio. The earliest record of the tomb being tampered with was during the 1600 jubilee year. The lid of the tomb was detached from the vault containing the mortal remains of Fra Angelico. The grave has been restored various times. In both 1915 and 1958 it was opened to look for the remains of the artist. Between 1959 and 1975 the tomb was renovated. After an act of vandalism in 2018 the monument was restored by the author of this piece.
